Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel

In order that Members of the Legislative Assembly may be assisted in their work in the Assembly, they have access to independent, non-partisan legal advice from the Office of the Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel*, which is responsible to the Legislative Assembly through the Speaker and the Board of Internal Economy.

In addition to advising Members on the interpretation of legislation or on any other questions of a legal nature concerning their work in the Assembly, the services offered by this office include the drafting, translation and printing of Private Members’ Bills and House amendments.

Other Member-related duties of the Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel include the provision of legal advice to the Non-controversial Bills Committee, the Private Bills Committee, the Regulations Committee and any other House committee as requested.
