The Legislative Assembly has
created a number of independent and impartial offices to assist it in
making government accountable and responsive to the public. These offices
help to monitor government spending, assist individual citizens with
concerns about their treatment by government, protect the interests of
children, receive concerns about the release of government information
and other privacy matters, and help Members of the Legislative
Assembly avoid conflicts of interest.
To ensure independence from government, by law, the head of each of these offices is named as an Officer of the Legislative Assembly. These Officers report directly to the Assembly through the Speaker. These Officers are in addition to those the Assembly has appointed to assist it with the proceedings and operation of Legislative Assembly, such as the Clerk (français), Sergeant-at-Arms and Law Clerk (français). |
