The Speaker of the 26th Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is Don Toth, MLA for Moosomin. The Speaker is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) elected in a secret ballot by all other MLAs to maintain order in the House in an impartial manner. This election takes place after each general election, or when the office of Speaker becomes vacant for any reason. Mr. Toth was the only MLA to put forth his name for the office. “I am excited to continue to serve the people of Saskatchewan in this capacity,” Toth said. “My experience in the Legislature will give me the necessary skills to manage the flow of House business and ensure the proper working of the House is emphasized.” The Speaker is responsible for the Legislative Assembly Service. As the person of highest authority in the House, the Speaker sits on a raised chair at the end of the Chamber, with government Members on his/her right and opposition Members to the left. Mr. Toth was first elected to represent the Moosomin constituency in the 1986 general election. He was re-elected in 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003 |
