Saskatchewan’s Legislative Library is a valuable resource for researchers and legislators. 

Experienced and welcoming library staff assist researchers and provide specialized and priority services for legislators and their staff. The collection dates back to 1876 and has a special emphasis on government, politics, and history. 

The Library features study space, wireless internet access, and computer stations with access to the Library’s online catalogue and electronic resources. There is browsing access to selections of the Library’s print collection, including Saskatchewan government publications; Saskatchewan statutes and regulations; and newspapers and periodicals. 

Services for MLAs, Officers of the Legislative Assembly, and their staff

Members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Officers of the Legislative Assembly, and their staff can rely on the Legislative Library to meet their information needs.  Information services are confidential and non-partisan.  Consulting with the Library saves time and helps legislators gather information on complex issues of the day.  Services include:

  • Borrowing privileges
  • Access to a broad range of electronic databases
  • Training in the use of electronic services
  • Tours of the Library
  • Research assistance using a variety of tools such as statutes, Journals, and Debates (Hansard), as well as other local and global resources
  • Subscriptions to periodicals of particular interest to Members
  • An extensive collection of Saskatchewan daily and weekly newspapers
  • Selected major national and international newspapers
  • Government publications from Canadian jurisdictions
  • Statutes and regulations from Canadian jurisdictions
  • An extensive collection of Saskatchewan local histories
  • A broad range of texts on government and policy-related issues
  • Access to inter-library loans for materials not held by the Library
  • Customized email alert service with links to full text news
  • Customized email alert service of new materials in the Library, such as magazines and new books
  • Mobile access to a direct-user news service
  • Subject bibliographies
  • Expedited delivery of Library materials to Constituency offices


Services for the Saskatchewan Public Service

The Legislative Library provides selected information services and resources to Saskatchewan public servants when these services or resources are not obtainable through a government department library.  Services include:

  • Basic reference assistance and an informed referral service
  • Borrowing privileges
  • Access to a broad range of electronic databases
  • Training in the use of electronic services
  • Tours of the Library
  • Delivery of Library materials by inter-office mail


Services for the Public

The Library's unique materials are available to public clients for use inside the Library. Services include:

  • Basic reference assistance and an informed referral service
  • On-site use of the collections
  • Members of the public may borrow Legislative Library material only by arranging an inter-library loan through their own local library
  • In advance of visiting, we recommend contacting the Library to discuss your information needs.  Portions of the Library’s collection are located in offsite storage. Advance discussion with library staff can help avoid disappointing delays in retrieval of collection material.
