Saskatoon Centre
Biography

Betty Nippi-Albright is Saulteaux and Cree from Kinistin Saulteaux Nation. She has over 20 years’ experience working in the health sector and community development. As a recognised Indigenous leader in healthcare and meaningful inclusion of Indigenous peoples in matters that impact them, Betty was able to spearhead the creation of an Aboriginal Health Strategy that resulted in the First Nation and Métis Health Services in Saskatoon. And as a primary health facilitator and community developer, Betty successfully developed long-term partnerships for health care programming to better serve the citizens of Saskatoon and area.

She also served on many boards and committees at the regional, provincial, and national levels, bringing an Indigenous lens and perspective to the work.

Betty is the great granddaughter of Chief Kinistin, who signed the adhesion to Treaty 4 in 1876. She was first elected MLA for Saskatoon Centre in 2020. In the legislature, Betty is vocal in advocating to honour inherent and treaty rights and right the wrongs of the past. She is also passionate about ensuring the meaningful inclusion and voice of Indigenous leaders and women at all intergovernmental tables.

Betty holds a Political Studies Master’s Degree and an Honours Degree in Aboriginal Public Administration from the University of Saskatchewan. She also has a Certificate in Indigenous Business Administration from the University of Regina. Betty and her husband, Ivan, have 3 children and 7 grandchildren.

Betty strives to create space and meaningful inclusion for Indigenous women and girls so they too can see themselves one day sitting in the chamber representing their constituents at the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly.
