Michael (Mike) Weger was first elected MLA for Weyburn-Bengough on October 28, 2024. On December 11, 2025, he was appointed to cabinet as the Minister of Community Safety and the Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency.
Mike also serves on the cabinet committee on Government Operations, the Lottery and Gaming Saskatchewan Board and the cabinet committee on Public Sector Bargaining. Previously, Mike acted as Legislative Secretary for the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety and was the chair of the Standing Committee on Human Services.
Mike practiced law for 17 years in Weyburn and was the sole owner of his law firm for 11 years. After graduating from Midale Central School, he attended the University of Regina and majored in Political Science, before moving to Saskatoon and graduating with a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Saskatchewan College of Law in 2007.
In addition to his professional life, Mike has been involved in numerous charitable and sports organizations and is always looking at ways to give back to his community. In 2018, he and his wife, Cara, were recognized as the recipients of the Mila Mulroney award from Cystic Fibrosis Canada for their involvement and fundraising efforts as co-presidents of the South Saskatchewan Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Canada. In 2023, Mike and Cara were also presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal for their outstanding contributions in their community and the province. He has also previously served the City of Weyburn as a firefighter. Mike has volunteered for many years as a basketball, soccer, softball and hockey coach, and he was named the Saskatchewan Hockey Association Volunteer of the Year – South in 2021. He also served as president of the Weyburn-Bengough Constituency Association for eight years.
Mike and his wife Cara reside in Weyburn and have 4 children. Their two youngest children are still at home in Weyburn, and their two oldest daughters attend the University of Regina.
