Regina, the capital of Saskatchewan, is excellent for visitors who want a mix of city attractions, green space, museums, family activities, and short road trips. Saskatchewan is known as the “Land of Living Skies,” with wide-open prairie scenery, strong seasonal beauty, and more than 100,000 lakes and rivers across the province.

Regina originally known as “Pile of Bones” derived from the Cree place name “oskana kâ-asastêki,” due to the large amount of buffalo bones found on the banks of the Wascana Creek. In 1882, the name, was changed to Regina (Latin for queen) in honour of Queen Victoria, as suggested by her daughter Princess Louise whose spouse, John Campbell, Marquess of Lorne, awas the Governor General of Canada at the time. In 1903 Regina became a city and was chosen as Saskatchewan’s capital in 1905.
