Biography

Randy Weekes was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan in 1999 as the MLA for Redberry Lake, and he was re-elected in 2003, 2007, and 2011 as the MLA for Biggar. In 2016 and 2020, he was re-elected in the new Biggar-Sask Valley constituency.

While in opposition, Randy served as critic for Highways and Transportation, Environment, and Labour, and he was deputy critic for Immigration and Information Services Corporation.

Randy has served as deputy chair of the legislature’s Standing Committee on the Economy and as a member of the Standing Committee on Crown and Central Agencies, Standing Committee on House Services, Standing Committee on Agriculture, the Standing Committee on Non-controversial Bills, and the Standing Committee on Private Bills. He also served as a Member of the Public Accounts Committee and the Board of Internal Economy. Randy has held the positions of Deputy House Leader, Government Whip, and Government Caucus Chair, and he has served as the Minister responsible for Rural and Remote Health.

On November 30, 2020, Randy was elected by his fellow MLAs to serve as the 27th Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. In this role, he serves as the Chief Presiding Officer and Chair of the Board of Internal Economy.

Born in Biggar, Saskatchewan, Randy grew up on the nearby family farm. He studied at the University of Saskatchewan and received a diploma in Agriculture, before returning to farm and ranch with his family. Randy and his wife Cindy make their home near Biggar.
